Meet Angie:
Founder & Lead Therapist
Hello & Welcome!
I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in North Carolina, a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator, and the founder of La Casita Naranjita Counseling. I created La Casita Naranjita because I wanted to build the kind of therapy practice I would want for myself and the people I care about; one that feels warm, genuine, culturally aware, and focused on meaningful growth.
My approach to therapy is collaborative, practical, and rooted in the belief that change doesn't only happen during our sessions together. In fact, I'm often what clients jokingly call a "homework therapist." While our conversations in session are important, I believe some of the most powerful growth happens in the moments between appointments; through reflection, practicing new skills, noticing patterns, and intentionally choosing how we want to show up in our lives and relationships.
I work with both individuals and couples navigating a variety of challenges, including anxiety, life transitions, relationship concerns, self-esteem, communication difficulties, grief, personal growth, and questions about what comes next. While every client and relationship is different, I especially enjoy working with individuals who are curious about themselves and motivated to grow, as well as couples who are willing to approach the therapeutic process with accountability, openness, and a genuine desire to better understand one another. I believe meaningful relationship work requires emotional safety and mutual respect from both partners. For that reason, I am not the best fit for couples experiencing high levels of ongoing conflict, hostility, intimidation, or situations where emotional safety cannot be reasonably maintained within the therapeutic process.
Before becoming a therapist, I studied English and Creative Writing, which eventually led me to write Penny and the Perfect Pumpkin, a children's book about blended families. Storytelling has always been important to me, and I think that's one reason I love therapy so much; we all carry stories about who we are, where we've been, and where we're going.
When I'm not working with clients, you'll usually find me planning my next trip, reading a good book, cooking dinner while records play in the background, or spending time with my fiancé and our two black labs, Bumi and Kida. One of the most meaningful experiences of my life was spending three weeks in Peru, including a journaling retreat in the Sacred Valley. The experience deepened my appreciation for reflection, intentionality, and creating space to reconnect with ourselves; values that continue to shape both my life and my work.
Whether you're seeking support through a difficult season, hoping to strengthen your relationships, or simply wanting to better understand yourself, I'm honored you're here.
